The Cloud Factory

Currently a 'work-in-progress' running parallel to the Teynland series, The Cloud Factory is a light comedy drama set in contemporary Runcorn and Widnes (a.k.a. Halton).

For those not familiar with the area, Halton is the combined name for the Cheshire towns of Runcorn and Widnes which sit either side of the River Mersey, joined by the iconic green arch of the Runcorn-Widnes bridge. (Or the Widnes-Runcorn bridge depending on which side of the river you live!)

A brief synopsis:

During a brief visit to his hometown to oversee the sale of a house, Jeff Williamson learns of the secret legend of the Lost Saxon Treasure of Halton. He is told of this by two out of work characters who he initially suspects of suffering from delusion. With time to spare Jeff decides to humour the pair as they follow clues pointing to the the whereabouts of the lost treasure.

Jeff becomes convinced the legend is true as his companions lead him around various locations in Runcorn and Widnes following clues left by an earlier treasure hunter in the Victorian era. But when false clues lead to modern buildings, it becomes apparent they are not the only ones on the treasure trail.

Fearing the Saxon treasure might fall into the hands of art thieves, the hunt becomes more urgent. The pace picks up, accelerating to a dramatic finale and, for Jeff, the discovery of a fundamental truth.
