Halton Poetry Writing Group
The group meets every second Wednesday of the month in Widnes Library at 7 p.m. for two hours.
For specific dates and details check the Facebook group - The Word & World in Halton.
If you write poetry, at any level, or want to start writing, then you are welcome to come along. It's a very informal group of local people who like to write poetry and meet like minded people. We first met in April 2009. We try different poetry styles, free-form and rhyme, for example haiku, villanelle, etheree, limericks. We also write by drawing inspiration from various sources such as postcards, inanimate objects, news or specific themes. Anyone is welcome to lead a session if they have a particular idea they would like to try.
Some of us have been recorded reading our work. These recordings have been broadcast on Halton Community Radio and you can hear samples via these links:
Albert - Welcome Home ; Anna - Little the Stems Grow ; Anne - The Cellar ; Jim - She Lives ; John - If I Ruled ; Mary - Cafe ; Tony - Library
Anna - Tea Ritual ; Mary - Excuses ; Tony - Library 2 ; Anne - Grandad
Future plans - we plan to invite a professional poet to critique our work and also aim to have some of our poems printed.
There is a companion Poetry Reading Group which also meets in Widnes Library in the evening of the last Thursday of each month. For specific dates and more details check the Facebook group - The Word & World in Halton.
Your next step - pick up some paper and a pen and see what happens.
